If you have information that will help other searchers - I will gladly add it here :

Currently (10/98) we seem to have enough information to begin with a classification of some groups. There are Dye, Die, Day, Dey families with oral tradition of French Huguenot origins with religious persecution causing families to emigrate from France to Holland, England, Denmark, etc. and THEN further afield through a succession of countries before landing in America. Dyes have come here as paid passengers, indentured servants, English convicts, or English soldiers of the Revolution who defected, were discharged while here, or taken prisoner during the War and stayed. Some were fleeing from Political, Religious or Economic difficulties. They may or may not have had descendants.  Specific information that one of these immigrants did NOT have descendants would be of interest also.  This list is intended to increase a reader's chance of success in finding that elusive immigrant ancestor.  Some of this information suggests origins for the immigrant listed.  Most does not.
  1. Danish ------ descended from Laurens Duyts who arrived on our shores 1639. Later names Dye, Dey, ? French Huguenot Family?
  2. Dutch ------- descended from Dirick Sicken - Later considered to be Richard Dey per J. Warren Scott DEY.   Many immigrants named Sicken, Sickman, Sickly, and Sicker are listed in the Passenger and Immigration List Index and Supplements.
  3. English ----- descended from one of the many DYES who immigrated from England
  4. Norwegian- descended from Albert and Gjertude Larsdtr DYE
  5. Unknown --
DAY surname not included: There are many DAY immigrants. Someone of that surname will have a lot of work to do to document all of them in the Passenger List Index.

RUPP, Israel Daniel. "A Collection of Upwards of Thirty-Thousand names of German, Swiss, Dutch, French and other Immigrants in Pennsylvania from 1727 to 1776 with a statement of the Names of Ships, Whence they Sailed and the date of their Arrival at Philadelphia, Chronologically."
This reference, on page 337 relates:
October 16, 1754
Ship Peggy. James Abercrombie Captain. From Rotterdam, last from Cowes. Inhabitants from the Palatinate and Wirtemburg. Ten Roman Catholics. Ninety-six well passengers (including the 10 Roman Catholics) and 8 sick passengers are named. (Matthaus was a well Protestant.) Why the distinction, I do not know.
